Freedom Balloon Fest 2018
Fuquay Varina, NC
Friday May 25th - Monday May 28th
Wake County residents and surrounding areas, it will soon be Memorial Day Weekend and with it, southern Wake County is happy to welcome the annual Freedom Balloon Fest back to Fuquay Varina for its 3rd year. This years plans to bigger and better and continue growing not only in attendance and popularity but as anything that is repeated, it gets better in how it is run, planned, and executed. With that being said, please keep in mind that these large balloons are no match for Mother Nature so all events involving the balloons are subject to change as weather conditions change and winds are unpredictable.
Everything kicks off on Friday afternoon around 2:00 with the grounds of Fleming Loop Park opening up to the public. There will be lots of vendors, activities and entertainment to see along with the main attraction, dozens of hot air balloons. Check out this link to see the entire schedule of events for the weekend https://www.freedomballoonfest.com/schedule.html
Be especially aware of the time for the crowd favorite, the Hot Air Balloon Glow that is scheduled to occur each night around 8:30. Weather permitting, this really is a very cool time. It ranks right up there with some of the best fireworks displays that you will see. The balloons ascend into the sky (while tethered) and then proceed to “light up” the sky with themselves, like giant floating lanterns.
The Fleming Loop Park campus is over 26 acres so plan on a lot of walking during your time at the festival, not to mention the walk you could have from your parking location. Wear comfortable shoes, hydrate yourself before getting to the festival and stay hydrated while there. Also, don’t forget your sunscreen and skin protection like hats and sunglasses. There are lots more tips on the FAQ section of the Balloon Fest website along with a map that shows all of your parking lot locations https://www.freedomballoonfest.com/faqs.html
With parking in mind, please be sure to park in designated areas and please do not park on private property or block driveways. We want everyone to have a fun and enjoyable weekend and that includes nearby residents of the balloon fest.
